Abby Wambach arrested in Portland
Former U.S. women's international standout Abby Wambach was arrested early Sunday on a DUI charge in Portland, Oregon.
Wambach was pulled over at 11:05 p.m. PT Saturday night after failing to stop for a red light, according to police.
The 35-year-old was arrested after failing a field sobriety test and was taken to Portland's Central Precinct. Wambach also failed a breath test.
The Rochester, N.Y. native was booked at 2:02 a.m. PT Sunday and charged with misdemeanor DUII (driving under the influence of intoxicants), according to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.
Wambach was released on her own recognizance. She was described as "polite and cooperative" with police.
Wambach, who scored more international goals (184) -- male or female -- retired in December after capturing her first Women's World Cup in June. She also is a two-time Olympic gold medalist.
