U.S. Soccer board postpones D-2, D-3 sanctioning for 7-10 days

Well, so much for any resolution or grand news about the future of the North American Soccer League and the United Soccer Leagues.

The U.S. Soccer board of directors Tuesday postponed a decision on sanctioning or re-certification of Division 2 and Division 3 professional leagues in a meeting in New York.

"We expected to have further discussions in the next 7-10 days as we focus on the resolution of this important matter," a U.S. Soccer statement said.

In other board business, the directors re-certified Major League Soccer and the National Women's Soccer League as Division 1 leagues.

The NASL is teetering on extinction. It has lost Minnesota United to MLS and the Tampa Bay Rowdies and Ottawa Fury to the USL. The Cosmos ceased operations Sunday and have released their players, although neither the team or the league have addressed that issue.
