USMNT to play Cuba Oct. 7


CHICAGO -- The U.S. national team will meet Cuba Oct.7, the teamsí first meeting in a friendly match since 1947. The match will take place at Estadio Pedro Marrero in Havana and broadcast on the ESPN and Univision networks, kickoff time to be determined, U.S. Soccer announced Thursday.

The U.S. has played once in Cuba since 1947, taking a 1-0 win in a World Cup qualifier Sept. 6, 2008.

"We are happy to have the chance to bring our team to Cuba," U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann said in a statement. "In addition to good competition, we are always looking for our group to have different experiences, and this is a unique opportunity."
