Castillo replaces Chandler on USMNT for Copa
CHICAGO - U.S. men's national coach Jurgen Klinsmann has added Monterrey defender Edgar Castillo to the roster for the Copa America Centenario. it was announced Friday morning.
He replaces Timmy Chandler, who has been diagnosed with a right quadriceps strain, which he suffered while playing for Eintracht Frankfurt.
As per tournament regulations, an injured player may be replaced on the roster up to 24 hours prior to a team's opening match. The replacement must come from the 40-man preliminary roster submitted April 29.
Castillo has 18 career caps and has started the USA's last two World Cup qualifiers. He will report to camp following the Liga MX finals. Monterrey plays away tonight against Pachuca, with the return leg scheduled for Sunday evening.
The U.S. completes a trio of Copa America Centenario warm-up matches against Bolivia on May 28 at Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas (7 p.m. CT; FS1 and Univision networks) [TICKETS].
