Eleven re-signs defender Marco Franco
INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indy Eleven has re-signed defender Marco Franco, the team announced Thursday.
Franco, 25, became the 10th Eleven player to return from the squad that captured the NASL’s Spring Season title and reached the final, losing on penalty kicks to the New York Cosmos after playing to a 0-0 draw.
“I'm excited to return to Indy Eleven and get the season started,” Franco said. “With the core that’s returning from last year we should be able to pick up where we left off. It's going to be a new challenge, but I know we're all hungry for success and eager to fill that void left from the Final last year.”
Franco and midfielder Don Smart are the only two players to be a part of all four seasons of play for the Eleven. Franco joined the Eleven on loan from the Chicago Fire late in 2014.
“Marco has established himself as a quality right back who, through his tough one-on-one defending, can handle any player in the league,” Eleven coach Tim Hankinson said. “His ability to push forward and attack is also among the best in the NASL and provides a different dynamic when we possess the ball.”
Franco leads the Eleven in games started (41) and minutes played (3,560) the last two seasons, appearing in 58 games in all competitions since September 2014.
