Match Day 15 roundup

Pumas 3, Tijuana 1
Pumas came up with a pair of late goals to pull away from Tijuana 3-1 Friday at Estadio Olimpico Universitario.

Matias Britos snapped a 1-1 deadlock with the game-winning goal in the 76th minute, latching on to the rebound after a long shot from Javier Cortes cracked off the crossbar. Ismael Sosa added an insurance tally off a give-and-go with Fidel Martinez in the 88th.

Dante Lopez sent UNAM into halftime with a 1-0 lead, scoring shortly before the intermission off a cross from Martinez. Dayro Moreno equalized for Xolos in the 62nd.

The win left Pumas (5-6-4, 21 pts) in playoff-eligible eighth place. Xolos (3-7-5, 16) are playing out the season with no hope of making the postseason.

Veracruz 2, Cruz Azul 1
Juan Albin scored in the 78th minute to give Veracruz a 2-1 win over Cruz Azul Friday at Estadio Luis Pirata Fuente.

Albin powered home a header to deliver the win.

Julio Furch opened the Tiburones Rojos scoring in the 30th minute, using his foot to help Horacio Cervantes' long ball into the net. Jorge Benitez netted the equalizer in the 55th.

Veracruz are well out of postseason contention at 2-7-6 and 13 points. Cruz Azul are tenth on the table with 19 points (4-7-4).

Toluca 1, America 0
Erbin Trejo's 42nd-minute goal was all Toluca (4-7-4, 19 pts) needed to defeat Club America 1-0 Saturday at Estadio Azteca.

Trejo delivered the win with an impressive 19-yard shot that glanced off the post and into the net. After the intermission, the Diablos Rojos packed the defensive end to preserve their slender lead and keep their playoff hopes alive.

The Aguilas are in second place at 8-3-4 and 27 points.

Monterrey 3, Queretaro 2
Clausura front-runners Monterrey (12-0-3, 36 pts) saw an early two-goal lead slip away, but held on to defeat Queretaro 3-2 Saturday at Estadio Bancomer.

Neri Cardozo sealed the win from close range in the 85th minute, despite the Rayados playing shorthanded after Edwin Cardona was red-carded in the 67th.

The Rayados seized control early, with goals from Carlos Sanchez in the 25th minute and Rogelio Funes Mori six minutes later. Sanchez opened the scoring with a blast to the upper left corner from the edge of the area. Funes Mori slipped a shot inside the post off an assist from Walter Ayovi.

The Gallos Blancos (4-4-7, 16) made a game of it in the second half. Yerson Candelo started the comeback in the 58th minute, right-footing a shot over netminder Jonathan Orozco, and Angel Sepulveda knotted the score 2-2 in the 63rd.

Santos Laguna 2, Tigres 1
Nestor Calderon's 77th-minute penalty kick lifted #3 Santos Laguna (8-3-4, 27 pts) over Tigres 1-0 and into the Liga MX postseason Saturday at Estadio TSM Corona.

Bryan Rabello put the Guerreros on the board in the 29th minute, after Calderon forced a turnover and slotted a pass that left the goal-scorer one-on-one with goalkeeper Nahuel Guzman. Juninho leveled the score for ninth-place Tigres (5-5-5, 20) in the 54th, with a header past netminder Agustin Marchesin.

Calderon stepped the spot after Hugo Ayala handled the ball in the box.

Pachuca 1, Chivas 1
Chivas de Guadalajara rallied to a 1-1 tie with Pachuca Saturday at sold-out Estadio Hidalgo.

Rodolfo Pizarro put Pachuca up 1-0 in the 49th minute. Ten minutes later, Carlos Pena leveled the score with a penalty kick after defender Omar Gonzalez fouled Angel Zaldivar in the box, and the Herd held on for the draw despite losing Jesus Sanchez to a red card in the 78th minute. The match finished ten-on-ten after Pachuca's John Medina collected his second yellow card and was sent off in the 90th.

Both teams hit the woodwork in the closing minutes, Pachuca's Ariel Nahuelpan sending a shot off the post and Jair Pereira redirecting a Chivas corner kick off the crossbar.

Chivas finish the week in sixth place at 5-7-3 and 22 points. The Tuzos are fourth on the table at 7-5-3 (26).

Atlas 1, Leon 1
Atlas and Leon battled to a 1-1 draw Saturday at Estadio Jalisco.

The last-place Zorros (2-4-9, 10 pts) went up 1-0 in the 23rd minute, on a goal by Jefferson Duque, but could not capitalize on two other early chances to expand their lead when goalkeeper Miguel Angel Fraga came up with clutch saves on Elias Hernandez and Jose Juan Vazquez. Mauro Boselli tied the score for the fifth-place Esmeraldas (8-2-5, 26) off a corner kick in the 75th.

Dorados de Sinaloa 1, Morelia 0
Relegation-bound Dorados de Sinaloa (4-2-9, 14 pts) edged playoff-hungry Morelia 1-0 Saturday at Estadio Banorte.

Daniel Arreola scored the deciding goal, in the 78th minute, after a counterattack down the right wing. A second apparent Dorados goal was swept off the goal line by defender Sebastian Loeschbor.

The Rayados are in seventh place with 22 points (6-4-5).

Puebla 2, Chiapas 1
Puebla (4-6-5, 18 pts) rallied to a 2-1 win over Jaguares (3-3-9, 12) Sunday at Estadio Cuauhtemoc.

Matias Alustiza leveled the score at 1-1 with a shot off the bounce in the 42nd minute, countering a 20th-minute goal by Jaguares' Alexis Canelo.

Alustiza also set the table for the game-winner, lofting a through ball for Eduardo Perez in the 64th.
