Tigres take control of the Gran Final

Tigres 3, Pumas 0
Fifth-seeded Tigres shut out #1 Pumas 3-0 in the opening leg of the Apertura Gran Final Thursday at Estadio Universitario.

Andre-Pierre Gignac opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 15th minute, after Rafael Sobis was taken down in the box by Javier Cortes. Pumas responded almost immediately, but Matias Britos sent his shot just over the bar.

Javier Aquino made the score 2-0 in the 29th, beating defender Jurgen Damm and teeing up a long shot, and Rafael Sobis added another insurance goal off a rebound at the hour mark.

To salvage their championship hopes, Pumas will need to score at least four goals when they host the second leg of the series Sunday at Estadio Olimpico Universitario.
