Liguilla semifinals second leg roundup
Defending champions Leon will face Pachuca for the Liguilla championship. The Tuzos entered the playoffs seeded sixth, while Leon was the #8 team in the field.
Santos Laguna 4, Pachuca 2 (Pachuca advances on road goals after 4-4 aggregate tie)
Pachuca came out on the short end of a 4-2 score against Santos Laguna Saturday at Estadio TSM Corona, but advanced to the Liguilla finals on road goals scored after the aggregate series ended in a 4-4 tie.
Rafael Figueroa had a brace for Santos, scoring in the tenth minute and the third minute of stoppage time. Juan Pablo Rodriguez added a penalty kick in the 67th minute, and Javier Orozco made the score 3-2 for Santos in the 77th. But the Guerreros played 70 minutes without starting netminder Oswaldo Sanchez, who was red-carded in the 20th minute for fouling Enner Valencia after the whistle had blown, and Pachuca took advantage.
Valencia put Pachuca on the board in the 26th minute, and Daniel Villalpando scored the Tuzos’ second road goal of the series in first-half stoppage time.
Midfielder Walter Ayovi will miss the first leg of Pachuca’s championship series against Leon after receiving a red card in the 63rd minute.
Leon 1, Toluca 0 (Leon advances, 2-0)
Leon will defend their 2013 Apertura title after Sunday’s 1-0 semifinal win over Toluca at Estadio Nemesio Diez. The Esmeralda advance to the final series against Pachuca by a 2-0 aggregate score.
Carlos Pena scored the lone goal of Sunday’s match, in the 51st minute, volleying a shot over netminder Alfredo Talavera. Toluca controlled the rest of the match, but came no closer to scoring than Carlos Esquivel’s shot off the bar in the 70th minute.
