Leon wins La Gran Final

Leon 3, America 1 (Leon wins La Gran Final, 5-1)
Leon rolled to the Liga MX title with a 3-1 win over Club America in the second leg of the Liguilla championship series Sunday at Estadio Azteca.

The Esmeraldas won the aggregate-goals Gran Final 5-1. Mauro Boselli opened Sunday’s scoring with his second goal of the finals. Nacho Gonzalez kept the Aguilas’ hopes alive with an own goal in the 42nd minute, deflecting a shot by Rubens Sambueza into his own net, but atoned by taking the point back with a set-piece header in the 51st. Three minutes later, a red card to Francisco Rodriguez left America shorthanded for the remainder of the match. Head coach Miguel Herrera and assistant Santiago Banos also were dismissed during the course of the match.

Edwin Hernandez capped the Leon coring in the 72nd minute.

Luis Angel Mendoza had America’s best chance just nine minutes in, cracking a shot off the left post.
