MEXICAN LEAGUE APERTURA
Liguilla semifinals, 2nd leg roundup
Club America 2, Toluca 0 (America advances, 3-2)
Club America advanced to the Liguilla finals with Sunday’s 2-0 win over Toluca at Estadio Azteca.
Aquivaldo Mosquera knotted the two-leg, aggregate-goal semifinal 2-2 in the 12th minute, and Jesus Molina lifted the Aguilas to the 3-2 aggregate win in the 83rd.
Rubens Sambueza set the stage for Mosquera with a pass to the top of the six-yard box that Mosquera redirected into the upper corner. After a clutch save by Aguilas netminder Moises Munoz on a header by Pablo Velasquez in the 70th minute, Molina headed the clincher past Alfredo Talavera.
America will face Leon for the championship.
Santos Laguna 2, Leon 2 (Leon advances, 5-3)
Leon will face Club America for the Liguilla championship after playing second-seeded Santos Laguna to a 2-2 semifinal draw Sunday at Estadio TSM Corona.
The draw gives the Esmeraldas a 5-3 aggregate win in the two-leg semifinal series.
Sunday’s match remained scoreless until the 50th minute, when Oribe Peralta connected for Santos. Mauro Boselli put Leon on the board – and into the Final – six minutes later, redirecting a cross from Matias Britos into the net from just off the left post, and Carlos Pena added an insurance goal for Leon in the 89th, faking his way around netminder Oswaldo Sanchez and pushing the ball into the net from short range.
Juan Pablo Rodriguez gave the Guerreros the last word with a stoppage-time penalty kick, but the goal was meaningless.
