Liguilla quarterfinal 2nd leg roundup

#4 Cruz Azul 1, #5 Toluca 1 (Toluca advances, 4-1)
Saturday’s 1-1 draw with #4 Cruz Azul at Estadio Azul was enough to send #5 Toluca through to the Liguilla semifinals by a 4-1 aggregate margin.

Christian Gimenez kept La Maquina’s comeback hopes alive with a 32nd-minute penalty kick, after Antonio Rios fouled Gerardo Torrado in the box, but Pablo Velasquez knotted the score for Toluca on a 78th-minute counterattack, scoring from close range after Isaac Brizuela’s cross in from the right side was deflected by Julio Cesar Dominguez.

The Diablos Rojos will face top-seeded Club America in the quarterfinals.

#3 Leon 4, #6 Morelia 0 (Leon advances, 7-3)
Leon blew open their quarterfinal series with Morelia on Saturday, scoring three goals in a 12-minute span of the second half on the way to a 4-0 win at Estadio Nou Camp that sent the Esmeraldas through to the semifinals by a 7-3 aggregate score.

Hernan Burbano’s 27th-minute goal was all Leon needed to take the two-game series, but the second-half flurry brought Morelia’s comeback hopes to a decisive end. Mauro Boselli scored his second postseason goal from close range in the 56th minute, Matias Britos connected with a header in the 67th, and Jose Vasquez closed things out from distance in the 68th.

Leon will face second-seeded Santos Laguna in the semifinals.

#1 America 1, #8 Tigres 1 (America advances on away goals after 3-3 aggregate draw)
For the second sight match, top-seeded Club America could manage only a draw with #8 Tigres. But Sunday’s 1-1 home tie at Estadio Azteca, coupled with a 2-2 deadlock on the road last weekend, was enough to carry the Aguilas into the Liguilla semifinals, where they will face Toluca.

Raul Jimenez drew first blood for America in the 52nd minute. Alan Pulido responded five minutes later, with his second goal of the playoffs, but Tigres were unable to come up with the second road goal that would have kept them alive.

#2 Santos Laguna 3, #7 Queretaro 1 (Santos Laguna advances, 6-3)
For the second straight game, Darwin Quintero led the way with a brace as second-seeded Santos Laguna defeated Queretaro 3-1 in Sunday’s Liguilla quarterfinal at Estadio TSM Corona. The result sent the Guerreros through to the semifinals by a 6-3 aggregate margin.

Oribe Peralta opened the scoring on a breakaway seconds after the intermission. Isaac Romo equalized for Queretaro off a rebound in the 55th minute, but Quintero put the game away with goals in the 67th and 78th minutes.

Santos will face Leon in the semifinals.
