Ex Irish star Henderson signs with Breakers
NORWOOD, Mass. - Two-time All-America forward Melissa Henderson will join the Boston Breakers for the 2012 WPSL Elite League season.

The Garland, Texas native helped Notre Dame capture the 2010 NCAA Division 1 championship, and was named the Soccer News Net College Player of the Year. She finished her career at Notre Dame with 70 goals (including 24 game-winners) and 26 assists for 166 points. She is tied for fourth in school history in career goals. She led the Irish in scoring this past fall as a senior with 18 goals.
Henderson was the second overall pick in the Women's Professional Soccer draft in January, selected by Sky Blue FC.
Henderson has played for the U.S. U-23 Women's National Team, along with current Breakers Bianca D'Agostino, Amanda DaCosta, and Katie Schoepfer. She finished the 2011 U-23 season as one of the team's top scorers. Henderson has also played for the U.S. U-20 Women's National Team. In December 2011, Henderson was called into the full U.S. Women's National Team camp by U.S. Head Coach Pia Sundhage.
Prior to playing at the University of Notre Dame, Henderson starred at Berkner High School in Richardson, Texas. In 2007, as a junior at Berkner, Henderson was named the Gatorade National Girls Soccer Player of the Year.
