A look at the upcoming game
Real Salt Lake (13-10-3, 42 pts) @ Philadelphia Union (7-12-3, 24 pts), 6:30 pm CT (NBCSN)
Time is running out on the Philadelphia Union. They have to make up 16 points on the rest of the Eastern Conference to get into playoff contention, and they have only 11 games left to do it in, beginning with Friday night’s showdown with Real Salt Lake at PPL Park. RSL, meanwhile, have lost their last three league matches dating back to Aug. 4, and need a win against the Union to get back into the race for the Supporters Shield, in which they currently trail league-leading San Jose by five points. The Union will be without outside back Sheanon Williams, red-carded in stoppage time of last weekend’s 1-1 draw with DC United. They will certainly miss his speed against torrid RSL goalscorer Alvaro Saborio, who scored for the seventh time in as many games in last weekend’s 2-1 loss to FC Dallas. RSL snapped a four-game losing streak across all competitions on Tuesday, with a 2-0 CONCACAF Champions League win over Panama’s Tauro FC.
