MLS FRIDAY
A look at the upcoming game
Houston Dynamo 11-5-7, 40 pts) @ New York Red Bulls (11-7-5, 38 pts), 7:00 pm CT (NBCSN)
The New York Red Bulls will get a quick chance to atone for one of their worst stumbles of the season when they host the Houston Dynamo Friday night at Red Bull Arena. Last Friday at BBVA Compass Stadium, the Dynamo blanked New York 2-0 in a match that was much more lopsided than the score would indicate. The result moved Houston and their five-game winning streak to the top of the MLS East, and, by weekend’s end, dropped New York from first to third place, while giving the Red Bulls their first back-to-back losses since the beginning of the season. The Dynamo have never won a road match against the Red Bulls, including this season’s series opener, won by the Red Bulls 1-0 on Kenny Cooper’s goal on May 29. Calen Carr, who scored Houston’s second goal against the Red Bulls last weekend and has four goals in his last four games, is questionable for this weekend with a swollen knee. New midfielder Tim Cahill is expected to make his second start for the Red Bulls. He had practiced only once with the squad before going the full 90 against Houston last week. Teemu Tainio also returned to the New York lineup after a long injury layoff, and is still trying to find his game rhythm. Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall has not allowed a goal in 320 minutes.
