MLS WEDNESDAY
A look at the upcoming game
Vancouver Whitecaps FC (8-4-6, 30 pts)@ Toronto FC (2-11-4, 10 pts), 6:00 pm CT (TSN)
Toronto FC have been much better outside of MLS competition this year than in it, and no one knows that better than Wednesday’s opponent at BMO Field, Vancouver Whitecaps FC. The Reds beat Vancouver for the Canadian Championship by a 2-1 aggregate score in May, but have yet to record their third win in league play, while Vancouver are a respectable fourth in the MLS West with a league-leading nine defensive shutouts to their credit and more points (30) than they earned all of last season. Toronto are coming off a 3-0 loss to the Philadelphia Union last weekend, and are without DP Danny Koevermans, whose personal five-game scoring streak was snapped against the Union, and who has been ruled out with a knee injury. The Whitecaps also will be missing a DP, in the form of suspended forward Eric Hassli, but have Scotland’s Barry Robson ready for his third appearance after going 90 minutes in last weekend’s scoreless draw with Chivas USA. Wednesday is the fourth game in a five-match Vancouver road swing that concludes Saturday in Chicago.
