MEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Notre Dame's Ryan Finley
Notre Dame senior forward Ryan Finley has been selected as the Chicagoland Soccer News Men’s College Player of the Week for the week ending September 2.
Finley racked up two goals and a game-winning assist as the Fighting Irish won the weekend’s adidas/IU Credit Union Classic. On Friday, Finley connected twice, including the game-winner, in a 3-2 victory over San Diego State. In the 61st minute, he received a through ball from Harrison Shipp, made a run up the middle and beat goalkeeper Blake Hylen, who came off his line, with a shot into the lower right corner of the goal. Finley nearly scored in the 73rd minute when he sent a rocket on frame that was knocked away by Hylen and his follow-up shot sailed high of the net, but it took him until the 82nd minute to complete his brace. Shipp was near the top of the 18-yard box and played the ball to Finley, who blasted it into the upper netting for a 3-1 Notre Dame lead.
On Sunday, Finley saw his personal two-game scoring streak come to an end, but set the table as Dylan Powers scored to give Notre Dame a 2-1 win over Clemson and the tournament title. Finley made a nice run with the ball into the 18-yard box and fed Powers, who sent the ball inside the far post from 15 yards.
