COLLEGE BOOT SPOTLIGHT: HANNAH DAVISON
Meet the Candidates, and Vote!
Northwestern sophomore defender Hannah Davison is one of three nominees for the Chicagoland Soccer News women’s college player of the year and the Soccer News Net Women’s College Boot, recognizing the national player of the year.
Davison proved to be a key performer on the back line in front of goalkeeper Lauren Clem as the Wildcats (16-3-4) earned their first Big Ten Conference title, tying with Minnesota and Penn State. Northwestern recorded 17 shutouts in advancing to the NCAA Round of 16, their best finish since 1998. Davison totaled 2,154 minutes, most among Northwestern field players, scoring once, the decider in a 1-0 win over Marquette Sept. 11.
Ball possession and defending proved to be an effective formula as the Wildcats recovered from the loss of 2015 leading scorer Addie Steiner (transferred to Hawaii) and Brenna Lovera (injured), who led the team with six goals in 10 games. Northwestern surrendered more than one goal only once, in a 2-0 loss to Rutgers Sept. 23.
Davison earned NSCAA third team all-Great Lakes Region and Academic All-Big Ten honors and was named the Chicagoland Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 19.
Fan voting accounts for 40% of the total toward selection of the Soccer News Net College Boot, and the winner of the popular voting receives the Soccer News Net Supporters’ Choice award.
