Loyola women's team announces six signings
The Loyola Chicago women’s team announced sisters Gopika and Radhika Patel of Darien, Ill., among six National Letters of Intent signings Wednesday.
Gopika, a defender, and Radhika, a goalkeeper, played for the Eclipse Select FC club team.
“Gopika played club at a very high level, so she’ll be prepared for the demands of the college game,” Loyola coach Barry Bimbi said. “She is very quick and closes down attackers with ease.
“Radhika has very good instincts as a goalkeeper and is a very good shot stopper. Playing some of the best teams in the country has prepared her well to make her mark in college.”
Other signings included defender Maria Gerace (Avon Lake, Ohio); midfielder Lindsey Hardiman (Gurnee, Ill.); defender Jenna Ross (Crystal Lake, Ill.); and forward Katharine “Kat” Stephens (West Aurora, Ill.).
Said Bimbi: “Maria is a very athletic center back that can cover a lot of ground, is strong into tackles and is very good with the ball at her feet.
“Lindsey is a very technical player that is dynamic off the dribble, always plays with her head up looking for teammates, but also has the ability to score goals.
“Jenna is an outside defender that loves to jump into the attack and can serve dangerous balls into the box. She is a very emotional leader that will drive her teammates to compete everyday.
“Kat roared onto the scene in recent months scoring goals in bunches for Team Chicago. She is a strong target forward, but is equally as dangerous off the dribble. Kat has the unique ability to make the players around her better, so we expect her to have an immediate impact in the offensive third.”
