Loyola rambles past UIC in NCAA opener

The Loyola Ramblers won their ninth successive home match, taking a 2-0 victory over the UIC Flames in the first round of the NCAA Menís Championship at Loyola Soccer Park Thursday night.

The Ramblers (14-3-1), who improved their home shutout streak to eight games and 733 consecutive minutes, will visit Notre Dame in a second-round match at 5 p.m. CT Sunday.

Loyola, outshot, 12-8, by the Flames (9-8-3), took the lead as Alec Lasinski headed in a Brody Kraussel cross in the 60th minute for his seventh goal of the season. Kevin Engesser converted his third goal of the season in the 89th minute.
