Loyola Rambler men stopped in semifinals

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The No. 1-seeded Loyola Ramblers menís team squandered the lead in falling, 2-1, in extra time to host Missouri State in the semifinals of the Missouri Valley tournament at the Betty & Bobby Allison South Stadium Friday night.

Loyola (13-3-1) controlled possession in the opening half, taking the lead on senior Kevin Engesserís close-range deflected shot in the 22nd minute, his second goal of the season, also having scored in a 2-0 win over the Bears Oct. 22.

Missouri State (9-7-3) equalized as Jake Buckle scored off a Mike Lightbourne assist in the 73rd minute, his second goal of the tournament.

Ricky Hoegg converted the decider, heading in a James Routledge corner in the 96th minute, his fifth goal of the season and school-record 13th career game-winner.
