Schwarz honored by Horizon League
INDIANAPOLIS– Three goals in a two-game stretch earned Loyola University Chicago sophomore Moriah Schwarz recognition as Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week .
Schwarz was recognized with the weekly accolade after scoring the equalizer against Milwaukee on Wednesday and for her two goals against Youngstown State on Sunday.
“It has been great for the team with Moriah scoring three goals over the past two games,” said Loyola head coach Barry Bimbi. “Moriah is building a rapport with Mariah Vichich. When Vichich gets the ball at left back, Moriah is able to read the ball being served, getting herself in dangerous areas and capitalizing on the opportunities that present themselves.”
The Ramblers won big on Sunday, outplaying Youngstown State and winning, 2-0. Schwarz had both goals for Loyola, putting the team up 1-0 at halftime after striking a shot from 20 yards out in the 25th minute. The sophomore extended the Ramblers lead in the 73rd minute, receiving a ball from Vichich and powering it between the posts. The win followed a 2-1 double overtime loss against the Panthers on Oct. 10, when Schwarz scored the equalizer for the Ramblers in the 61st minute, to send the game into overtime.
This is Schwarz’s first weekly accolade of her career and marks the first time since the 2008 season that four Ramblers have earned Horizon League weekly honors.
