BIG (TEN) SHUTOUT
Hoosiers blank Buckeyes 2-0

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Goals from freshman Andrew Oliver and sophomore Eriq Zavaleta led Indiana to a 2-0 win over Ohio State Sunday afternoon at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

The Hoosiers improved to 6-1-1, 1-0 in Big Ten play. It is the first time the Hoosiers have shut out the Buckeyes in Columbus since 2006, and the second-straight shutout of OSU.

“It’s good to get 1-0 in the Big Ten,” said Indiana head coach Todd Yeagley. “Anytime you get a road win in conference play and start 1-0, that is a positive. Performance wise it was not up to our standards today. I was disappointed in our passing and our decisions for good chunks of the game.

“We got the result but our team needs to perform better.”

Indiana took control early in the game with Oliver taking the ball down the left side of the field before laying off to Hollinger-Janzen who was making a run up the middle. The freshman had a wide-open shot but skied his attempt over the goal.

Oliver was active all half and it paid off in the 31st minute when he netted his first goal of the year. The freshman took a half shot that bounced off OSU goalkeeper Alex Ivanov. A Buckeye defender tried to chase down the ball as it slowly rolled toward the net but could not get a foot on it before it crossed the line.

That was just the third first-half goal for Indiana this season.

Indiana added a second goal early in the second half when Oliver was taken down by Ohio State’s Austin McAnena in the penalty area. Zavaleta took the penalty kick, scoring his seventh goal of the season.

Ohio State nearly got a goal back in the 50th minute on a shot from Zach Mason but great positioning from Luis Soffner in the net kept the Buckeyes at bay.

With less than four minutes to play, Hollinger-Janzen sent in a header off a corner kick from Harrison Petts, but Ivanov was in position for the save.

Ohio State out-shot the Hoosiers 16-10 but Soffner picked up his fifth shutout of the year with six saves, four of which game in the second half. Indiana has not allowed a second-half goal this season, out-scoring opponents 12-0. Alex Ivanov made two saves for the Buckeyes

Indiana returns to action this Wednesday against in-state foe Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m. ET at Armstrong Stadium.
