Hoosiers fall to Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Goalkeeper Shannon Flowers’ ten-save performance went to waste on Friday night as the Indiana women fell to Iowa 1-0 at the Iowa Soccer Complex.

A 30th-minute penalty kick by Katherine Lewis was the only goal the Hawkeyes needed to seal the win.

“Shannon Flower was outstanding in goal tonight. We had a lot of ball movement and possession in the midfield and the back line forced Iowa to shoot from long range nearly the entire game,” Indiana head coach Mick Lyon said. “Our attack was very good up top with good combinations and at some point I know that we are going to crack a goal to win the game. If we continue to play like this, I have all the confidence in the world that we can win any of the remaining Big Ten games.”

Iowa held a 21-13 edge in shots for the game while corner kicks were even, 5-5.

“I told the team afterwards that it is an absolute pleasure to coach this team when they play with the kind of effort and creativity and put forth those great performances all over the pitch” Lyon said. “That is something to work with and you will get results if you play that way. We are disappointed in the result but ecstatic with how we played as a team.”

The Hoosiers wrap up their road trip on Sunday at Nebraska starting at 2:00 p.m. ET.
