NORMAL, Ill. -- Illinois State improved its unbeaten streak to 14 games, taking a 2-1 win over Evansville in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament final Sunday.
The Redbirds (14-5-2) rallied from a deficit in outshooting the Purple Aces (4-12-3), 20-1. Paige Jarsombeck equalized, finishing as Brooke Ksiazek headed on a Kiley Czerwinski cross in the 52nd minute. Lauren Koehl broke the deadlock off a Brianne Richards cross in the 61st minute, her 16th goal of the season.
"You can't put into words how much it means for our team, for the staff and for the program," ISU coach Eric Golz said. "The amount of progress that they've made in the past 12 months is impressive. I'm really proud of them; they've worked their butts off to prepare for this moment. I am incredibly proud of them."
