COLLEGE BOOT SPOTLIGHT: ABBY REED
Meet the Candidates, and Vote!
DePaul senior forward Abby Reed is one of three nominees for the Chicagoland Soccer News women’s college player of the year and the Soccer News Net Women’s College Boot, recognizing the national player of the year.
Reed led DePaul (10-6-3) with 11 goals (two game-winners) in 19 games and was named Big East Conference Offensive Player of the Year (a first for a DePaul women’s team player) and first team all-conference, along with teammates Alexa Ben and Taylor Schissler. Reed, an NSCAA second team All-Northeast Region choice, tied for the conference scoring lead with Creighton’s Lauren Sullivan with seven goals, the Blue Demons tying with Marquette for the regular-season conference title.
Reed, who totaled 38 career collegiate goals in 76 games, set an Indiana State record with 10 goals in 17 games in 2013, then transferred to DePaul and scored a school record-tying 12 goals (seven game-winners) in 2014 and added another five (three game-winners) in 2015. Reed totaled 28 goals (12 game-winners) in 59 games for DePaul, third on the school’s career list, behind Elise Wyatt (35) and Julianne Sitch (32). Reed, the Chicagoland Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 3, also earned COSIDA Academic All-District honors.
Fan voting accounts for 40% of the total toward selection of the Soccer News Net College Boot, and the winner of the popular voting receives the Soccer News Net Supporters’ Choice award.
