DePaul men fall, gain Big East tourney berth

MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The DePaul menís team gained a place in the Big East Conference tournament, despite falling, 1-0, to Marquette, in both teamsí final regular-season league match at Valley Fields Thursday night.

The Blue Demons (9-7-2 overall, 4-5-0 conference) finished a point ahead of Georgetown in sixth place after the Hoyas were defeated by Creighton (3-0) and will visit third-seeded Villanova in a first-round game at 1 p.m. ET Sunday. The last time DePaul visited Villanova, the Blue Demons lost, 4-2, Oct. 1.

Luke Prpa scored his 10th goal of the season for Marquette (5-7-4, 2-5-2), a 23rd-minute penalty kick.

DePaulís Philipp Koenigstein, Michael Mojarro and Austin Harrell had chances in the second half as the Blue Demons were outshot, 12-11.
