SOCCER NEWS NET SALUTE
Georgetown's Corboz is Women's College Player of the Week
Georgetown sophomore Daphne Corboz has been named the Soccer News Net Women's College Player of the Week for the week ending September 30.
Corboz rewrote the Georgetown and Big East record books in Sunday's 8-0 Hoya win over Pittsburgh with a league-record 11-point performance. The second-year starter also tied a Big East mark with five goals, which also set a school record. Corboz had an assist in the contest as well. Both figures stand as NCAA single-game highs this season. The performance vaulted her atop the league leaders in points (33) and goals (14).
Corboz (Green Brook, N.J./Watchung Hills) opened the Hoyas’ scoring in the second minute, putting a shot into the lower right corner of the net, then scored again late in the third minute, blasting in a deflection from 18 yards.
In the 14th minute, Corboz sent a corner kick to the box, where freshman midfielder Marina Paul got a head on it and Kaitlin Brenn tapped to make it 3-0.
The lead grew to 5-0 and Corboz tallied her third goal of the game with a shot she finished to the upper left corner in the 32nd minute.
Corboz and Brenn combined again, teaming up for the sixth goal early in the second half. Brenn sent a cross toward the box that Corboz tipped in in the 48th minute. Corboz scored her fifth goal of the game in the 70th minute, taking a shot from the left side that went in to the lower right corner.
