PERFECT ACES
Evansville blanks Cincinnati 2-0
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville improved to a perfect 4-0-0 on the year by closing out the ProRehab Aces Soccer Classic with a 2-0 win over visiting Cincinnati Sunday afternoon at McCutchan Stadium.
The Purple Aces controlled much of the action on the first half, applying pressure early and often, before taking a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute. Faik Hajderovic swung in a well-placed cross that found the head of Nate Opperman for the goal.
Hajderovic got on the score sheet for the second time when he doubled UE’s lead by finishing a long free kick service from goalkeeper Eric Teppen. Teppen’s perfectly placed kick from nearly 70 yards away took a high hop off the pitch and Hajderovic did the rest, beating the Bearcat keeper with a strong shot inside the far post.
In addition to the assist, Teppen made three saves to post his first shutout of the season.
Evansville had four players named to the ProRehab Aces Soccer Classic All-Tournament team, as Hajderovic and Opperman were joined by Luis Enrico Romero and Defensive Player of the Tournament Patrick Hodges.
The Aces will look to stay perfect next weekend when they travel to St. Louis for a 7 p.m. Saturday matchup with the Billikens.
